La Reserva’s ‘X Factor’ shines through in Golf World rankings
La Reserva Club Sotogrande has placed 30th in the Golf World ‘Top 100 X Factor Courses’ rankings list.
The extensive list ranks Europe’s most desirable golf courses on their jaw-dropping settings, dramatic holes, tournament pedigree, and overall look and conditioning. This latest European Top 100 ranking from Golf World identifies courses that both ‘blow your mind and subconsciously charm you’.
Carved into the Sotogrande hillside with natural vistas in every direction, the 7,400 yard 18-hole championship layout at La Reserva Club was designed in 2003 by American architect and course designer, Cabell B. Robinson. With wide, sweeping fairways that lead on to vast, undulating greens, stark elevation changes, and numerous water features, La Reserva is simply a must-play for any golfer visiting the region.
Chris Bertram, Top 100 Courses and Resorts Editor for Golf World and Today’s Golfer, commented: “La Reserva Club is the first course in this rankings list that ticks all four criteria boxes – setting, dramatic holes, tournament pedigree, and conditioning. The design ranks as at least a 7/10 in all those categories, and in the case of conditioning, more like a 9.5! It features some terrific holes and boasts spectacular Mediterranean views from elevated fairways and well positioned teeing areas.”
Rita Jordao, Sales and Marketing Director for Sotogrande SA, added: “We are delighted that La Reserva Club has been recognised as the 30th best course in Continental Europe within this new and exciting rankings list by Golf World.
“The championship golf course was designed to make the most of the unique Andalucian landscape and deliver a golfing experience that is second to none, which has been reflected by this latest achievement. We always try to deliver the very best playing surfaces for our members and visitors, so it’s a testament to the work of our greenkeeping team that the course conditioning was highlighted within this award.”
La Reserva Club has a short but storied history, having played host to the some of the world’s best golfers in several professional tour events. In 2014, the club hosted the European Tour’s (now DP World Tour) NH Collection Open, which featured several European Ryder Cup stars. In 2019 it also played host to the hugely successful La Reserva Club de Sotogrande Invitational, hosted by World Golf Hall of Famer, Annika Sorenstam. Most recently, the club has become a regular venue in the Ladies European Tour’s unique ARAMCO Team Series schedule.
