Burhill Juniors to Represent England at Home Nations Inter-Club Championship
Burhill Golf Club, Walton-on-Thames, is delighted to report that its Junior Development Programme (JDP) team have qualified to represent England at the Home Nations Inter-Club Championship in Spain next year by virtue of a runner-up finish in the English National Finals.
With over 1,200 clubs from across England taking part throughout 2015, the Burhill side of Malcolm Scott Watson (16), Jeong Sim (17), Ronnie Casey (16), Ethan Job (16), Calin Rosu (13), Elliot MacGregor (12), along with reserves Lorenzo Horwitz and Caleb Cochran, secured qualification with an impressive performance in the National Finals at Studley Wood Golf Club.
The standout Burhill performer on the day was three handicapper Jeong Sim, who shot an impressive two over par round of 75 in tough conditions to finish second in the individual standings.
Matthew Hazelden, General Manager at Burhill, commented, “This really is an outstanding achievement by our JDP team and is proof that the investments that we’ve made in the development of our junior golfers are really paying dividends.”
“In terms of their future development as golfers, it’s great that the boys will be able to experience competitive golf on an international scale at such a young age,” continued Hazelden.
The Home Nations Inter-Club Championship, to be contested over five days at Antequera Golf Club near Malaga in March, will pit England against Scotland, Northern Ireland, Eire and Wales.
Highlights will be shown on Sky Sports as part of a 90-minute broadcast later in 2016.
Burhill Golf Club continues to invest in the development of junior golfers, with its Golf Academy operating regular weekend classes and school holiday camps, and its JDP nurturing the most talented junior members.
