Elizabeth Prior 4

Burhill Golf Club, the Surrey-based BGL Golf venue near Woking, is delighted to report that its star junior girl member, Lizzie Prior, has confirmed her status as the best junior female golfer in the country by topping the year-long England Girls Order of Merit.

Her success this year was highlighted by victories at the Sunningdale Critchley Salver, Roehampton Gold Cup and Fairhaven Trophy, with her impressive play earning her a place in the England team at both the German Girls Championship and the European Girls Team Championship.

While her fine form this year has seen her top the Girls Order of Merit by more than 35,000 points, Lizzie also finished 8th on the England Women’s Order of Merit and even competed in the recent men’s EuroPro tournament at Burhill

Having recently taken up a full golf scholarship at the renowned NCAA Division 1 College, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), the +3 handicapper spoke about how pivotal Burhill’s Junior Development Programme (JDP) has been to her success.

“It’s a huge honour to have won the Girls Order of Merit,” said Lizzie. “While it’s the perfect way to cap off what’s been a great year for me, and I hope to continue to improve and develop as I begin my collegiate career at UNLV.

“The support and encouragement that I’ve received from everyone at Burhill over the past 10 years has provided me with the perfect platform to achieve success on a national level. In particular, I owe a lot to the JDP.”

Mike Evans, Head Professional at Burhill, commented: “We couldn’t be prouder of Lizzie’s accomplishments. Winning the Girls Order of Merit is recognition of how consistently she’s performed at a high level this year and we all wish her all the best at UNLV.”

Burhill Golf Club continues to invest in the development of junior golfers, with its Golf Academy operating regular weekend classes and school holiday camps, and its JDP nurturing the most talented junior members.
