Mike Waite (second from right) with fellow Hoebridge Golf Centre members

Mike Waite, current Men’s Captain at Hoebridge Golf Centre, Woking, tackled a marathon 24 hour golf day earlier this month to raise funds for the charity LinkAble.

During the day, Mike managed to play each of Hoebridge’s courses, completing a staggering 118 holes, which equated to 25 miles of walking and 447 shots.

“We’re hugely proud of Mike for completing such a monumental task in aid of fundraising for LinkAble.

“All of us here at Hoebridge, staff and members alike, were supporting him throughout the day wherever we could, and are delighted that he’s managed to raise such a significant amount for the charity,” commented Mike O’Connell, Senior General Manager at Hoebridge Golf Centre.

A total of nearly £1,000 has been raised by Mike through his efforts, and will provide LinkAble with vital funds for their work with those with learning disabilities, giving them the chance to develop their potential and enjoy socially inclusive, fulfilled lives.

Mike was joined throughout the course of the day by members who wanted to show their support for his fundraising efforts and keep him company during the 24 hours.

Special mention must go to Hiro Katano who managed to make a hole-in-one on the 18th at 11pm when only floodlights lit the players’ way.

“It was a very long day, but worth every minute,” commented Mike Waite. “The staff at Hoebridge were incredibly supportive, and thanks must go to them and all the members who came out to keep me company throughout the day.

“I also have to thank Jeff Hyman from Jewsons in Staines for providing floodlights for the event, otherwise it would have been a bit dark out there!”

Hoebridge Golf Centre is situated in Woking amongst the beautiful Surrey Downs, and features a picturesque 18-hole golf course with stunning views of the surrounding area. The centre is also home to a nine-hole course, a par three short course, Footgolf facilities, and a Mr Mulligan’s Pirate Golf adventure course, all ideal for beginners and families.
