Martyn Jobling shot a superb six under par 65 to win the 2016 Foremost Assistants Championship supported by Srixon/Cleveland Golf at The Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club.

The Morpeth Golf Club assistant professional carded five birdies and an eagle on his way to a two shot victory over Alresford’s Philip Bryden around the testing Championship course.

The event saw 110 Foremost Professional Assistants tee it up for a prize fund of £5,000, with Jobling taking home the winner’s cheque of £1,000, as well as a 2017 Srixon staff contract.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have won the Assistants Championship, and the effort put in by both Foremost and Srixon/Cleveland Golf has been great. The whole day was extremely well run,” said Jobling.

“Although I’d never played the course before, I got off to a nice start with birdies at the first two holes and just managed to play the rest of the round one shot at a time without getting too ahead of myself.

“After making a bogey to drop back to one under, I was able to string three birdies together at the 8th, 9th and 10th, and then managed to play some steady stuff coming in before finishing with a nice eagle three up the last,” continued Jobling.

As an additional incentive to competitors, any entrant who used both a Srixon ball and glove in the event received free tournament entry, four dozen personalised Z-Star or Z-Start XV balls and six gloves.

Following its trip to The Open Championship at Troon the previous week, the Srixon tour truck was on site, providing competitors with the opportunity to enjoy being treated like a Tour professional, as well as giving an insight into the latest product developments from the brand.

Leslie Hepsworth, President of Srixon Sports Europe, commented, “We’re thrilled to be supporting the hosting of this event as it gets assistant professionals from around the country playing our products and provides us with the opportunity to showcase our Cleveland wedge range, as well as the new forging process on the Tour truck.

“The day has been extremely well run by Foremost and it represents the biggest field ever of young professionals playing our Srixon Tour ball,” continued Hepsworth.

Commenting on behalf of Foremost, Company Director Andy Martin said, “It’s great to see so many enthusiastic assistant professionals as they represent the future of our game and the golf business as a whole.

“This event provides a nice opportunity for us to support the assistants that put in so much time across clubs in our membership,” continued Martin.
