Local Golf Star Joe Amer Wins National Championship
Milton Keynes local golf star, Joe Amer, has won one of junior golf’s most prestigious events, the American Golf Junior Championship.
15 year old Joe, who’s a member of Abbey Hill Golf Centre, scored a fantastic 40 stableford points at the Championship, held at Gainsborough Golf Club in Lincolnshire.
Playing off a handicap of 14 at just 15 years of age, Joe successfully negotiated his way through Regional Qualifying at Thonock Park Course, before going on to claim the prestigious national title.
“I couldn’t be happier,” said Joe. “This is by far and away my biggest golfing accomplishment to date and it will do my confidence the world of good going forward to know that I can compete on a national scale against kids of my age.”
Commenting on Joe’s accomplishment, Abbey Hill Head Professional Steve Brown said, “We’re all extremely proud of Joe and what he has achieved. To battle through qualifying just to get to the grand final and to then go on and win the whole thing is a phenomenal accomplishment.
“Under the guidance of Tom Blick here at Abbey Hill, Joe’s game has gone from strength to strength and he certainly has a bright future ahead of him,” continued Brown.
Abbey Hill continues to provide both juniors and the entire local community with an all-embracing atmosphere and first-class golf facilities, boasting what many regard as the best course in Milton Keynes.
The challenging, main 18-hole parkland layout features some spectacular backdrops, while the 9-hole par three short course, driving range and Mr Mulligan’s Pirate Golf are popular with all corners of the area.
