Ramsdale Park Honours Local Football Legend with Star-Studded Golf Day
Ramsdale Park Golf Centre, a BGL venue based in Calverton, Nottinghamshire, held a golf day in collaboration with Notts County Football Club to honour long-serving central defender, Mike Edwards.
Nicknamed ‘The Phoenix’, Edwards is currently in his tenth year at the club and has been granted a testimonial year for 2016 after devoted fans applied to The Football League to honour the player.
72 people arrived for the shotgun start, with many of Mike’s current team-mates coming along to support him, including Elliott Hewitt, Ronan Murray, Andrew Boyce, and Adam Campbell.
Past Manchester United players, Roy Carroll and Alan Smith also joined the golfing fun, as well as past Leicester City and Notts County player, Lawrie Dudfield and Notts County board members, Ian Roberts and Vivian Pavis.
Edwards first joined the club in 2004 and made 269 appearances, which included lifting the League Two title in 2009/2010, before his brief departure to join Carlisle United in 2012.
The central defender made a welcome return to The Magpies at the beginning of 2014, taking on the role of strength and conditioning coach as well as registering as a player.
The team at Ramsdale Park have been working closely with Notts County, with the celebratory golf day hailing what Howard Craft, General Manager at Ramsdale Park, hopes will be the first of many collaborative events between the two venues:
“It’s was a privilege to have hosted a golfing event day in celebration of Mike’s testimonial year.
“Throughout his career, he’s been an important figure in the community, as has the club, so it’s great to be able to bring Ramsdale Park and Notts County FC together to celebrate Mike’s achievements, and I hope this relationship will continue in the future.”
The winners of the day will enjoy a hospitality box at Meadow Lane for Mike’s testimonial match against local rivals, Nottingham Forest.
